Event

Post by Bradford Van Treuren »

This post is about the term "Event" and how that relates to P2654, P1687.1, 1687, and 1149.1-2013. For now is only covers this one word, but may need to expand to also include discussions on the difference between an "event" and a "transacton" or a "message." Here are the contents of the discussion so far on "Event."

From Dictionary.com:
Event: something that occurs in a certain place during a particular interval of time. Physics . in relativity, an occurrence that is sharply localized at a single point in space and instant of time.

From P2654 group discussion:
Event: Action that changes state of the hardware at a particular point in time (Glenn: any change that causes a reevaluation is an event)

From P1687.1 group discussion:
Events: Operations on one register (an iApply causes a CSU sequence on a register).

Further discussion in P2654:
Brad: P1687.1 discussion argues event is update of model or DUT or both

Brad: Michele and I have been settling on needing clarification adjective to identify context of the event and are unable to use the term alone

Ian: Isn’t 1687.1 view a HW register? iApply to what? SW Model or HW

Brad: iApply to SW Model, synchronization of SW model to HW is where the event gets satisfied

Notes from further P2654 discussion:
In P2654 (STAM), an event is any state change in the hardware, not just a register. STAM doesn’t know which register is being targeted. STAM should only be dealing with transactions, not specific events. There may be several 1687.1 events which happen that are dealt with in one transaction; STAM doesn’t care.
