Host Support in Gateways

Post by Ian McIntosh »

Gateways may require to possess particular properties to effectively support certain types of host/controller or to allow management of multiple hosts. What do we think these properties/features are?
  • Transparent pass-through mode - support for vendor tools that are ignorant of gateway protocols
  • Prioritization/arbitration of multiple hosts - allow for e.g. board local controller, system controller and external controller
  • Reporting downstream chain type - secondary bus or secondary chain (does this belong here or in the generic features?)

Another bullet point should be the communication between the host and the gateway.

In our Aug 16, 2010, meeting Brad suggested we should think about whether there is a way to abstract the functional behavioral aspect of the gateway, as opposed to defining the structural elements.
