- Transparent pass-through mode - support for vendor tools that are ignorant of gateway protocols
- Prioritization/arbitration of multiple hosts - allow for e.g. board local controller, system controller and external controller
- Reporting downstream chain type - secondary bus or secondary chain (does this belong here or in the generic features?)

Gateways may require to possess particular properties to effectively support certain types of host/controller or to allow management of multiple hosts. What do we think these properties/features are?

In our Aug 16, 2010, meeting Brad suggested we should think about whether there is a way to abstract the functional behavioral aspect of the gateway, as opposed to defining the structural elements.
