Re: PAR scope and direction

Maybe the following will take care of both concerns: From: While many standards exists at the device level, with diverse feature sets, there is currently no standard that provides for aggregation of these or the management and coordination between such standards from a board or system test perspecti...

Re: Updating the SJTAG "Mission Statement"

Mission Statements: SJTAG intends to utilize JTAG and similar design for testability (DFT) methodologies and tools in order to ease system level test development and to improve test comprehensiveness. SJTAG goals also include improvements in diagnoses and prognoses without the need for system disass...

Re: PAR scope and direction

Brad, with all due respect, your example does not negate the analogy. It shows that you used drill bits for measurements (a kind of test coverage). I suppose your point was that SJTAG can be used for other purposes besides test coverage metrics. Agreed, and I never said it can't be. My complaint is ...

Re: PAR scope and direction

I think we are stating and restating our positions over and over again. A good analogy might be to consider SJTAG as a standard for drills. There may be many different considerations and different ideas about how best to accomplish making standard drills, but undoubtedly the underlying need for dril...

Re: PAR scope and direction

I would have to courteously disagree with Louis. Test Coverage is not the only reason for the existence of SJTAG. There are many factors, too many to enumerate in a PAR. I don't know how you concluded from what I wrote that I promote test coverage as "the only reason for the existence of SJTAG." I ...

Re: PAR scope and direction

The debate is not limited to Brad, Ian and Louis. Perhaps it would help address Louis' concerns if we include a sentence in the Needs statement that says that SJTAG recognizes the need for some form of standardized measurement of test coverage and quality of test, but this standardization effort (th...

Re: PAR scope and direction

I have been accommodating to all types of suggestions to "tone down" the need for test coverage metrics, but it appears that it is still not being included - even in the Need section of the PAR. If better test coverage of systems is not part of the Need, then I submit there is no need at all for tes...

Re: PAR scope and direction

I would be OK with Heiko's suggestion. I think we could say it something like this: "There is a need to ease test development and to improve test coverage measured by various means including, but not limited to, design verification tests (DVT), standardized failure mode effects [criticality] analyse...

Re: My need is...

I think there are two other "needs" that we should address: Need "C" is the ability by the properly identified maintainer to overcome security restrictions that may disable use of test and diagnostic features. Need "D" is some quantitative fault metrics that apply to systems. At a minimum, this shou...
